Avro Lancaster B III 'Dambusters' 1:72

Nineteen specially modified Lancaster bombers led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson attacked the Mohne, Eder and Sorpe dams that provided Germany's industrial center of the Ruhr with power and water. The Mohne and Eder dams were both breached causing widespread damage to industry putting a severe strain on the German war effort.

The squadron, No 617 Squadron, later became known as the 'Dam Busters' in honor of this achievement. The Lancaster bombers were equipped with a special type of bomb designed by Barnes Wallace, called the Upkeep mine, that skipped over the nets protecting the dams from torpedo attack . These bombs became famously known as the bouncing bombs.

It was a daring raid in many respects and earned the Lancaster and 617 Squadron a place in history.
