DH Chipmunk 1:72


The Chipmunk was the successor to the famous Tiger Moth biplane Royal Air Force trainer. The aircraft performed outstanding duties during it's service life and continues today in small numbers.

The Chipmunk is an all metal. low wing, two seat, single engined monoplane designed to train pilots in basic flying operations. The student occupies the front seat and the pilot/instructor occupies the rear place. A single sliding canopy covers both student and instructor. The landing gear is fixed and is configured in the traditional manner with the main wheels at the front and a single small tail wheel at the back.

Over 1200 Chipmunks were manufactured between 1946 and 1957. It saw service with the Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force, Belgian Air Force and Portuguese Air Force. The Royal Air Force continued using them in some capacity until 1996.
